âWhere are we going?â I asked a week and a half later as we drove through the gates. I practically bounced in my seat because this was our first date away from Westhorne. Until now, we had only met in the woods and at my house. There werenât a lot of places to meet secretly at the stronghold.
Ronan cast an amused glance in my direction. He hadnât told me anything except to meet him at the garage at noon. It was Saturday, so there were no classes, which meant we had the whole afternoon to ourselves.
âBoise,â he said at last.
âReally?â I couldnât have sounded more excited if heâd said we were going to Disney. âWhere in Boise?â
He shrugged. âI thought we would drive around and see what appeals to us.â
âThat sounds like fun.â I settled back happily in my seat, and we talked about things to do in Boise.
âCan I ask you something?â I said during a brief lull in the conversation.
âYou can ask me anything.â
I turned slightly in my seat to face him. âThat day I first met you in the woods, you ran so fast. And when you fight you move a lot faster than my aunt who is ten years older. Is it because of your wolf?â
He smiled at the mention of that day. âYes, but I wasnât always fast. It took me years to learn how to tap into my wolfâs strength and my Moriâs strength at the same time. And I canât do it when Iâm in my wolf form.â
âBecause your Mori is dormant then,â I said.
âYes.â
I fell quiet at the reminder he couldnât sense my Mori in his wolf form. I ran with his wolf every night, and sometimes, we sat together for a while in our little spot at the lake. He was affectionate and playful, but he showed no signs of imprinting on me.
âYouâre fast, too. Iâve seen young warriors who couldnât catch you in a foot race,â he said.
âOne of the perks of being half Fae,â I joked. âSpeed, stealth, and the ability to kill vampires with a touch. Iâm still working on the last one.â
He looked over at me. âYouâve fought more than one?â
âA few,â I said reluctantly. Iâd told him about the vampire in the alley, but not about the two in the parking garage or the one after that. Eldeorin had taken me for two more sessions since the night we went to Blue Nyx. During the last session Iâd killed a young vampire with my magic, but it was far from a perfect kill.
Ronan turned his attention back to the road. âWhen?â
âDuring some of my lessons with Eldeorin,â I said before I noticed Ronanâs tight jaw. Mom had told me this would happen. Males felt the bond more strongly, and it made them overly protective.
I reached over and touched the hand gripping the gear shift. âEldeorin trained my mother in the same way, and she made him my godfather. Do you think she would have
